Adeniyi Johnson Calls Out Security Agencies After Narrow Escape from Robbery

Nollywood actor Adeniyi Johnson had a close call with a robbery attack in Lagos on Sunday, May 11, shortly after returning to the city. The actor took to Instagram to share the harrowing experience and express his frustration with the state of security in Lagos.

In his post, Johnson criticized security agencies for focusing on stop-and-search routines rather than addressing the real security threats faced by residents. “Lagos needs better security than those stop and search that ask ‘oga how weekend, anything for us?!!’,” he wrote, highlighting his concerns over the ineffectiveness of routine checks.

The 47-year-old actor explained that while stuck in traffic, his car was suddenly surrounded by a group of suspected robbers. “I heard a big bang on my windshield and the next thing I saw were 3 thugs all over my car! Trust me they were more but that was all my eyes out of fear could count!” he recounted. The robbers attempted to rip off his side mirrors and smash his windshield, but Johnson managed to escape without injury.

Johnson blamed the traffic congestion on two trailers that were blocking the road, causing further chaos and making it easy for the robbers to target vehicles. “From both sides I heard ‘yo mirror e’ and the other side ‘fo glass e’… all these happened because of two mumu trailers with smoke occupying the whole road and not driving on their lanes!!” he shared.

Grateful for his narrow escape, Johnson urged the government to improve proactive security systems beyond basic car checks. He emphasized the need for a more effective and efficient approach to tackling security issues in the city.

In his post, Johnson also took a moment to celebrate his colleagues who triumphed at the 2025 Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCA). He congratulated Mercy Aigbe, Femi Adebayo, Lateef Adedimeji, Mo Bimpe, and Gabriel Afolayan for their impressive wins. Femi Adebayo won Best Lead Actor for Seven Doors, while Chioma Chukwuka claimed Best Lead Actress. Lateef and Mo Bimpe’s Lisabi: The Uprising won Best Indigenous Language Film (West Africa), and Mercy Aigbe and Gabriel Afolayan bagged Best Supporting Actress and Actor awards, respectively.
