Abacha’s Ex-CSO Al-Mustapha Declares 2027 Presidential Ambition Under SDP

Major Hamza Al-Mustapha, a former Chief Security Officer to the late military head of state, General Sani Abacha, has officially announced his intention to contest for Nigeria’s presidency in 2027. He declared his ambition under the platform of the Social Democratic Party (SDP).

Al-Mustapha made the announcement on Tuesday, June 18, during a visit to Minna, the capital of Niger State, where he met with state party leaders and supporters. Speaking to the gathering, he expressed deep concern over the country’s current condition and vowed to provide honest, focused leadership if elected.

“I am pained and deeply concerned about the current state of the nation. However, with the right direction and commitment, Nigeria can rise again. Though the road ahead may be rough, together we can rebuild the Nigeria we all deserve,” he stated.

He emphasized that his visit was part of a wider national consultation effort, aimed at engaging with grassroots supporters and political stakeholders across the country ahead of the 2027 elections.

Before the meeting in Minna, Al-Mustapha also stopped by Mokwa to commiserate with over 200 victims of a recent flood disaster, highlighting his commitment to the welfare of Nigerians. He stressed that strong leadership, unity, and compassionate governance are crucial for addressing the country’s pressing challenges.

The SDP Chairman in Niger State, Buhari Yarima, welcomed Al-Mustapha’s declaration, describing it as a sign of the party’s growing strength and relevance ahead of the 2027 polls. “We are confident that with credible candidates and a clear vision, the SDP will be a force to reckon with in 2027,” Yarima stated.

Al-Mustapha’s entry into the presidential race adds another dimension to the upcoming elections as Nigeria looks ahead to a crucial democratic transition. His campaign is expected to focus on national unity, security, infrastructure, and economic reforms.
