NFF Appoints New Coaches for Flamingos Ahead of World Cup Qualifiers

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has announced the appointment of new technical staff for the Nigeria U-17 women’s national team, the Flamingos, as preparations begin for their upcoming World Cup qualification campaign.

Former Nigerian internationals Joy Jegede-Idakwo and Aighewi Omodiaghe have been named as assistant coaches for the team. They will work alongside head coach Akeem Ishola Busari to strengthen the team’s technical and tactical preparation.

In addition, Kola Ige has been appointed as the new goalkeepers’ trainer, completing the updated coaching setup.

Jegede-Idakwo brings leadership experience as a former Falconets captain, while Omodiaghe adds valuable playing experience, having featured for the Flamingos at the inaugural FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup 2008.

The new coaching team will guide the Flamingos as they prepare for the qualification series for the upcoming FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup Morocco 2026, with hopes of improving on Nigeria’s strong third-place finish at the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup 2022.
