9ice Criticises Reliance on Religion Says Prayers Have Not Improved Nigeria

Nigerian singer 9ice has sparked fresh debate after criticising the country’s strong dependence on religion, arguing that prayers alone have not brought meaningful development.

Speaking at a recent event covered by Gold Myne TV, 9ice said that despite the high level of religious devotion in Nigeria, there has been little visible progress in key areas of national life.

The singer, whose real name is Alexander Adegbola Akande, identified himself as a traditionalist and explained that his views are shaped by personal experiences. He revealed that he once recovered from a spiritual attack through traditional Ifa practices, which influenced his beliefs.

According to 9ice, many Nigerians spend a significant amount of time on religious activities such as church services and pilgrimages, sometimes placing less focus on practical solutions to societal problems.

He compared Nigeria with countries like the United Kingdom, noting that societies with lower levels of religious activity have achieved higher standards of living and development.

In his remarks, the singer questioned whether constant prayers without action can truly address the country’s challenges. He stressed that while faith is important, it should be balanced with responsibility and active efforts to improve society.

9ice’s comments have generated mixed reactions, with some agreeing with his stance on the need for practical action, while others have defended the role of religion in people’s lives.

The conversation adds to ongoing public discussions about the relationship between faith, governance, and development in Nigeria.
