Catholic Archbishop Calls for Faith and Prayer Amid Nigeria’s Challenges at Easter
The Archbishop of Onitsha, Valerian Maduka Okeke, has called on Christians to remain steadfast in faith and prayer as they navigate the current challenges facing Nigeria.
In his Easter message titled “Faith and Prayers: We Move,” Valerian Maduka Okeke described faith as a vital part of human existence and the Christian journey. He explained that faith represents humanity’s response to God’s guidance and revelation.
Referencing the Catechism of the Catholic Church and biblical teachings, the Archbishop noted that faith is “the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen,” emphasizing its importance in uncertain times.
He said the message is particularly relevant as many Nigerians continue to face issues such as insecurity, unemployment, and concerns about governance. According to him, faith helps believers remain hopeful and resilient despite these difficulties.
Valerian Maduka Okeke also encouraged Christians to draw closer to God, citing Hebrews 11:6, which teaches that God rewards those who seek Him with sincerity.
Beyond belief, he stressed that faith must be supported by prayer and reflected in daily actions. He urged Christians to live with integrity, truthfulness, and dedication in their personal and public lives.
The Archbishop called on the faithful not to lose hope, encouraging them to remain committed to spiritual growth and positive values even in challenging circumstances.
His message comes as Christians around the world celebrate Easter, a season that symbolises renewal, hope, and reflection on faith.
