Police to train 50,000 recruits to boost security nationwide
The Police Service Commission and the Nigeria Police Force have announced that physical and credential screening for 50,000 police constable recruits will begin on March 9, 2026, marking a major step in efforts to strengthen security across the country.
The nationwide exercise follows a directive from President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to urgently increase the number of security personnel in response to ongoing security challenges.
According to a statement issued by the commission’s spokesman, Torto Nkoju Kalu, at its headquarters in Abuja, the screening comes after the completion of the online registration phase and represents the next stage of the recruitment process.
The commission said the screening will run from March 9 to April 18, 2026, at designated centres in all states and the Federal Capital Territory. Applicants are expected to attend at venues assigned in their state of origin or the FCT, as indicated on their invitation slips.
Candidates have been instructed to appear in white canvas shoes, white T-shirts, white shorts, and white stockings, as part of the standard requirements for the exercise.
The recruitment drive is part of ongoing efforts to improve personnel capacity within the Nigeria Police Force, especially as authorities continue to address rising cases of insecurity, including kidnappings, attacks, and banditry in several parts of the country.
Chairman of the commission, Hashimu Salihu Argungu, reiterated that the recruitment process is completely free and carries no financial obligation. He warned applicants to stay alert and avoid scammers or online impostors trying to exploit the exercise, stressing that anyone caught engaging in fraud will be arrested and prosecuted.
