Ibukun Awosika Advises Couples Not to Let Money Cause Conflict at Home
Business leader and former chairperson of First Bank of Nigeria, Ibukun Awosika, has advised couples not to allow money to become a source of conflict in their homes. She stressed that mutual understanding, teamwork, and shared values are more important than financial status in building a stable marriage.
Awosika shared this message during a sermon at Celebration Church International, in a talk later shared on Instagram by Emmanuel Iren. Drawing from her personal experience, she explained how her personality and financial outlook complemented that of her husband, helping them maintain stability over the years.
She described herself as a risk-taker who was running a manufacturing company early in their marriage, while her husband, a petroleum engineer known for his prudence, worked in the public sector of the oil and gas industry. According to her, their different approaches helped balance their household, ensuring they remained secure even during challenging times.
Awosika noted that her husband’s careful financial habits meant the family never lacked basic needs, while her willingness to take risks created opportunities for growth. She explained that they relied on faith and long-term vision, holding on to promises they believed would guide their journey.
She recalled that years into their marriage, her husband secured an oil field after applying when smaller fields were opened to Nigerians. The achievement, she said, showed the power of teamwork between a supportive husband and wife who understand each other’s strengths.
Using her story as an example, Awosika urged couples to see money as a tool rather than a source of tension. She encouraged partners to work together, support each other’s ambitions, and avoid turning finances into a battleground.
She concluded by emphasising that when couples unite with shared purpose and respect, they become a strong team capable of overcoming challenges and achieving lasting success together.
