Fave Raises Concern Over Alleged Ramadan Show Restrictions in Nigeria

Nigerian singer Chidozie Godsfavour Ugochinyere, popularly known as Fave, has expressed confusion and concern over an alleged directive preventing artistes from holding shows in Nigeria during the Islamic holy month of Ramadan.

The singer revealed that her plan to organise a concert on her birthday, March 13, has faced repeated setbacks because the date falls within the Ramadan period.

Taking to her page on X (formerly Twitter), Fave shared her frustration.
“So I was tryna do a show in Nigeria on my birthday this year but they’re telling me shows aren’t allowed during Ramadan? I’m a little confused,” she wrote.

In a follow-up post, the “Baby Riddim” crooner explained that multiple promoters had reportedly declined to organise the event, citing Ramadan as the reason. According to her, her team received similar responses several times while trying to secure arrangements for the show.

Ramadan is a sacred month in Islam during which Muslims fast from dawn to sunset, leading up to the celebration of Eid-el-Fitr. In some regions, certain social activities are reduced out of respect for the period.

However, Fave stated that while she respects all religions, she does not believe the observance should affect her ability to host a birthday concert. She noted that she grew up in Southern Nigeria and only became aware of Ramadan practices in her late teens.

“I started this year wanting to do my first show in Nigeria on my birthday as an independent artiste and back to back, promoters kept sending word to my team saying the same thing,” she said.

She added, “I respect all religions. But I’m Christian and I really want to do this on my birthday, so if you’re reading this and are open to organise, I’d be so happy.”

Her comments have sparked conversations online, with some supporting her right to host an event, while others argue that cultural and religious sensitivities may influence event planning decisions in certain areas.

As discussions continue, Fave’s experience highlights the balance between religious observance and entertainment activities in Nigeria’s diverse society.
