Skit Maker Ijoba Lande Alleges Assault and Theft by Lagos Police

Nigerian skit maker and actor Ganiyu Morufu, popularly known as Ijoba Lande, has accused officers from the Area ‘J’ Division of the Lagos State Police Command of assaulting him, confiscating his iPhone 16 Pro Max, and stealing $1,200 belonging to his brother.

The allegations were made in a video posted on his verified Facebook page, where the entertainer appears with visible facial injuries. Ijoba Lande said the attack occurred just six days after his return to Nigeria from the United Kingdom, although he did not provide details on the exact location or the circumstances leading to the incident.

In the footage, he is seen at a facility resembling a police station, attempting to lodge a complaint about the alleged assault and theft. As of now, the Nigerian Police Force has not released an official response regarding the claims.

If proven true, these allegations represent a serious violation of citizens’ rights and a potential abuse of power by law enforcement officers. The incident risks further eroding public trust in the police, particularly among young Nigerians and creatives, a community that often interacts with authorities during public events or social media controversies.

The case shows the ongoing challenges of police accountability and brutality in Nigeria. As a public figure, Ijoba Lande’s account has drawn widespread attention on social media, highlighting the need for transparency and timely investigations by law enforcement agencies.

The timing of the incident, soon after his international travel, adds a layer of shock and vulnerability to the narrative, drawing further concern from fans and human rights advocates.

Authorities and the Lagos State Police Command are now under pressure to investigate the allegations thoroughly, provide clarity, and uphold the rights of citizens, including public figures.
