DeeOne Responds After Police Invite Over Video on Tinubu’s Turkey Visit
Former Big Brother Naija housemate Aderombi Adedayo, popularly known as DeeOne, has responded after receiving an official invitation from the Nigeria Police Force in connection with a video he shared online.
The comedian shared the development publicly on Thursday by posting the official letter on his social media platforms. The letter, issued by the Force Intelligence Department (FID), instructed DeeOne to report to the FID Annex Office in Lagos through the OCCIOS team for what was described as a routine interview related to an inquiry.
DeeOne explained that the police invitation may be linked to a video he recently posted about President Bola Tinubu during the president’s state visit to Turkey. He clarified that he shared his observations as an ordinary citizen, commenting on something he found unusual and felt should be discussed publicly.
The comedian noted that he has received various reactions, including phone calls and messages suggesting that his post could be considered cyberbullying, and that he should not have mentioned the president or his son. Despite this, DeeOne said he stands by his post and believes he acted within his rights as a Nigerian citizen.
He also made it clear that he has no intention of issuing an apology if the police inquiry relates to the video. “I stand by what I posted. Sharing my personal opinion about national matters is my right and should not be treated as a crime,” he said.
DeeOne confirmed that he would respect the police directive and report to the office on Monday. He promised to update the public on the outcome of his visit.
This incident highlights the growing scrutiny of social media commentary in Nigeria, particularly when it involves public officials, while reaffirming the delicate balance between freedom of expression and online accountability.
