Kunle Kuti Says Wizkid Is the Only Artist He Ever Begged to Meet Amid Seun Kuti Feud

Kunle Kuti, the second son of Afrobeat legend Fela Anikulapo-Kuti, has spoken out amid the public feud between his brother, Seun Kuti, and Nigerian superstar Wizkid. He expressed heartbreak over the tension and shared his deep admiration for Wizkid.

In an interview with Kola Olapoju of The Cable, Kunle said he believes Fela and Wizkid should not be compared, as they represent different styles and eras of music. He revealed that Wizkid is the only artist he has ever begged to meet, highlighting the singer’s respect and admiration for his father’s legacy.

Kunle praised Wizkid for tattooing an image of Fela on his arm, calling it a powerful gesture of honour that even Fela’s own children have not done. He noted that none of Fela’s children carry tattoos of their father, making Wizkid’s tribute unique and meaningful.

He said, “I don’t want anybody to compare them. It’s two different things. I was heartbroken, like, Ah, what is this going on? Wizkid is the only artist I’ve kind of begged people to meet in my life. Even Sunday Are, I have begged him, ‘Guy, I want to meet this guy,’ to show how much I love him. For the fact that he has Fela’s tattoo on his arm, we, his kids, don’t even have our dad’s tattoo on us.”

The comments come as tensions escalated after Seun Kuti reportedly criticised Wizkid, suggesting that the superstar should not associate himself with Fela’s legacy because of the tattoo. Fans and the Nigerian music community have been divided over the issue, with some defending Wizkid’s tribute and others backing Seun.

Reactions from social media users varied. Some noted the irony of Fela’s own children being critical while Wizkid shows deep respect. Others expressed support for Kunle’s stance, praising him for recognising Wizkid’s unique gesture and urging Seun to stop the public feud.

Earlier, Nollywood actor Yomi Fabiyi also weighed in, asking Wizkid to remain calm amid the clash. The feud drew widespread attention after Seun allegedly said Wizkid would “never be successful again” unless he removed Fela’s tattoo from his arm.

Kunle Kuti’s comments highlight a rare perspective from within Fela’s family, showing appreciation for Wizkid’s homage and calling for peace between the artists.
