The film becomes the first Nollywood directorial debut to surpass N1 billion in earnings and ranks as the fourth highest-grossing Nollywood film of all time, unadjusted for inflation. This achievement underscores the growing commercial viability of locally produced Nigerian films, especially comedies led by established stars.
Film One Entertainment shared the success on social media, celebrating the milestone: “N1BILLION+ at the box office, First Nollywood directorial debut to hit N1 BILLION, 4th highest grossing Nollywood film of all time in West Africa, this is a full celebration!!! Oversabi Aunty opened strongly, generating N87.8 million during its opening weekend and an additional N12.7 million from preview screenings, bringing total opening earnings to N100.5 million. This made it the second-highest-grossing opening of the weekend and Nollywood’s second-biggest opening of 2025 at the time.
The film features a stellar cast, including Mike Ezuruonye, Efe Irele, Queen Nwokoye, Jemima Osunde, Enioluwa Adeoluwa, Tana Adelana, and Toyin Afolayan. It premiered in Lagos on November 14, 2025, with the cast and industry stakeholders in attendance, and has maintained strong audience interest throughout its theatrical run.
In 2024, Toyin Abraham also made waves with Alakada: Bad & Boujee, which grossed N500.3 million, ranking as the fifth highest-grossing Nollywood film at the time.
Oversabi Aunty continues to screen in cinemas across Nigeria, with select showings in the UK and upcoming releases in the United States and Canada, suggesting further box office growth from diaspora audiences. The film is distributed by FilmOne Entertainment, a leading Nigerian cinema distribution company.
The comedy revolves around Toun, played by Abraham, a well-meaning but overbearing church usher whose constant interference in the personal lives of those around her turns her household into a humorous and chaotic environment. The film’s blend of relatable comedy and strong performances has resonated with audiences, driving its remarkable box office success.
