Singer Portable Released on Bail After One Week in Prison Over Assault and Theft Allegations
Controversial Nigerian singer Habeeb Okikiola, popularly known as Portable, has been released on bail after spending one week in prison following serious allegations of assault and car theft.
According to reports by Daily Post Nigeria, the singer regained his freedom on Monday, January 19, 2026, after meeting all the bail conditions set by the court. His release comes after he was remanded in custody last week while facing a nine-count criminal charge.
Portable was accused by his baby mama, Ashabi Simple, alongside her siblings, of physically assaulting them and stealing a vehicle. These allegations led to his arrest and subsequent arraignment in court, where he was ordered to be held in prison pending the fulfillment of his bail requirements.
After his release, Portable shared a video on social media where he strongly denied all accusations against him. In the video, the singer claimed that the allegations were false and insisted that he was innocent, saying that people had lied against him.
Although his release on bail means he is no longer in custody, the legal case is far from over. The court proceedings are expected to continue, and the singer will now prepare his defence while awaiting his next trial date.
The case has continued to attract widespread attention from the public and the media, especially given Portable’s history of legal troubles and public controversies. Many fans and observers see the situation as another example of how personal disputes often spill into legal battles within Nigeria’s entertainment industry.
For now, Portable remains a free man, but the outcome of the assault and theft charges will be determined by the court in the coming weeks as the legal process unfolds.
