Etinosa Idemudia Says Acting Is A Job For “Mad People”

Nigerian actress and filmmaker Etinosa Idemudia has described acting as one of the most demanding professions, saying it is “a mad people’s job.”

Speaking on the Bold Enough To Say It podcast, Etinosa shared that her experience as both an engineer and an actress opened her eyes to how much more mentally and physically challenging acting can be.

She explained that while engineering is structured with regular work hours and defined tasks, acting often pushes people beyond comfort zones — requiring emotional vulnerability, long filming hours, and unpredictable schedules.

“I have been an engineer and I have been an actor,” she said. “No offence to my colleagues in the engineering world, but I dare say that being an actor is much more tasking. It’s a crazy kind of work. It’s a mad people’s work.”

Etinosa also urged her fellow actors not to allow people in other fields to belittle their craft, noting that acting demands creativity, courage, and resilience.

“Don’t let those people that close by 5 PM come and be insulting us,” she added humorously, emphasizing that the profession requires sacrifice and passion that many outsiders do not fully understand.

The Blood of Enogie star noted that the emotional intensity and unpredictability of the acting world often make it harder to balance personal life, yet it remains one of the most rewarding creative paths for those who truly love storytelling.

Her comments have since sparked online conversations about the challenges actors face in Nollywood, with many agreeing that the profession demands extraordinary commitment and emotional depth.
