Tinubu Seeks Senate Approval for NERC, FCCPC, NPC, and RMAFC Commissioner Appointments

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has requested the Senate’s confirmation of several key appointments across major federal agencies, including the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC), the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC), the National Population Commission (NPC), and the Revenue Mobilisation, Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC).

The President’s request was conveyed through a formal letter read by Senate President Godswill Akpabio during Tuesday’s plenary session.

In the letter, Tinubu nominated Abdullahi Ramat as Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of NERC, alongside Abubakar Yusuf as Commissioner for Consumer Affairs and Dr. Fouad Olayinka Animashaun as Commissioner for Finance Management Services.

He also nominated Louis Odion from Edo State as Commissioner for Operations and Ùmmueelm Ìsiyaku Rabiu from Kano State as Commissioner for Corporate Services at the FCCPC, seeking the Senate’s approval for their appointments.

For the National Population Commission (NPC), Tinubu proposed Agbaje Olukoye as Chairman from the South-West, with additional commissioner nominees including Hon. Hafiz Muhammad Kawu Ibrahim (Technical, North West), Samuel Chigozie Uwande (Inspectorate, South East), Charles Efe Sylvester (Finance, South South), Bello Abubakar Malabu (Administration, North East), and Omolola Bridget Oliworaran (Director General, South West).

Other nominees for the NPC include Dr. Joseph Haruna Kigbu from Nasarawa State and Tonge Betara Bularafa from Yobe State.

The President further requested confirmation of five nominees for the Revenue Mobilisation, Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC). The nominees are Bello Abubakar Wammako (Sokoto State), Hadizatu Uwani Mustapha (Borno State), Senator Marafa Bashir Abba (Taraba State), Ahmed Waziri Hassan (Adamawa State), Bob Helen Inafe (Bayelsa State), and Gboyega Oladele (Osun State).

Tinubu also asked the Senate to confirm Mr. Obehi Aire Okafor as Co-Chairman of the Governing Council of the Unclaimed Funds Trust Fund, underscoring his administration’s ongoing effort to strengthen key regulatory and fiscal institutions.

If confirmed, these appointments will enhance governance across strategic sectors, including energy regulation, consumer protection, national planning, and fiscal allocation, as part of the government’s broader reform agenda.
