Schneider Electric Launches Smart MTZ Active Circuit Breaker in West Africa

Schneider Electric, a global leader in energy management and automation, has unveiled its flagship MasterPacT MTZ Active smart circuit breaker in West Africa. The advanced digital solution is built to enhance safety, efficiency, and connectivity while promoting sustainability in industrial operations.

According to Schneider Electric, the MTZ Active is designed to meet the growing energy challenges across West Africa. It supports industries ranging from small-scale manufacturing to large industrial complexes by ensuring power availability and business continuity.

Opeyemi Olaniyan, Offer Manager for Power Products at Schneider Electric West Africa, explained that the new circuit breaker is well-suited for today’s increasingly electrified and digitised industries. He highlighted its role in helping facilities manage load fluctuations, integrate alternative power sources, and restore power quickly after outages through its MicroLogic control unit, which provides real-time data for smarter energy management.

A key innovation of the MTZ Active is its wireless communication capability. Unlike traditional circuit breakers that require wired infrastructure, the MTZ Active integrates wireless protocols such as Bluetooth, Near Field Communication, Zigbee, and cloud gateways. This makes it easier to install, reduces costs, and supports remote monitoring through Schneider Electric’s EcoStruxure IoT platform or third-party systems.

Olaniyan also emphasized safety as a central feature. The breaker comes with an Energy Reduction Maintenance Setting (ERMS) that protects maintenance staff from arc flash hazards. Additionally, it introduces an industry-first QR code diagnostic system on its LCD screen, allowing users to scan and immediately identify the cause of a trip, reducing downtime and improving operational efficiency.

Another standout benefit for businesses in West Africa is its retrofit compatibility. Companies with existing MasterPacT NT/NW installations can upgrade to the new MicroLogic Active trip unit without changing the switchboard or footprint. This not only extends equipment lifespan but also cuts down costs and waste.

“With the MTZ Active, industries now have a smarter, safer, and more sustainable solution to modernize their electrical infrastructure without the need for a complete system replacement,” Olaniyan stated.

The launch of Schneider Electric’s smart circuit breaker marks a major step forward in advancing digital energy solutions in West Africa, helping industries boost efficiency, improve safety, and move closer to sustainable power management.
