Adekunle Gold Reveals He Wrote a Song for Beyoncé in 2019 During His Toughest Moment

Popular Afrobeats star Adekunle Gold has opened up about a deeply personal chapter in his music journey, revealing that he once wrote a song for American superstar Beyoncé in 2019. The singer shared that the opportunity came shortly after the death of his father, a period he described as one of the most painful times of his life.

Adekunle Gold explained that Beyoncé’s team had invited him to contribute to her critically acclaimed album “The Lion King: The Gift”. However, at the time, he was grieving heavily and struggling to return to the studio. Despite the weight of his loss, he eventually pushed himself to create music again, and from that pain came the song “Simile.”

According to him, even though he submitted the track to Beyoncé’s camp, a part of him secretly wished it would not be selected because of the emotional depth behind it.

For years, the song remained unreleased until 2024, when his close collaborator Michael rediscovered it during a studio session. That moment reminded Adekunle Gold of the healing power of music and how faith had carried him through his darkest times.

Reflecting on its meaning, the singer said: “Even in my deepest loss, I was not alone. I had God to lean on.”

Now, Adekunle Gold has finally released “Simile” as part of his latest album, “Fuji.” He hopes the song will speak to listeners who are dealing with different forms of grief.

Sharing words of comfort, he added: “Grief isn’t just about losing a parent. It can be the loss of a person, a friendship, a dream, or even a version of yourself. Whatever it is, you don’t have to carry it alone.”

The revelation adds a heartfelt layer to Adekunle Gold’s artistry, showing how his personal struggles have shaped his music and message.
