May Yul-Edochie and Ex-Lawyer Emeka Ugwuonye Clash Over Divorce Dispute

The divorce battle between May Yul-Edochie, estranged wife of Nollywood actor Yul Edochie, and her former lawyer, Emeka Ugwuonye, has escalated into a public war of words. The fallout has now spilled onto social media, where both sides continue to trade damaging accusations.

On Friday, Ugwuonye released screenshots of alleged private chats with May. In the posts, he claimed he had supported her through parts of her divorce process, providing legal guidance and personal assistance. Despite his efforts, he accused May of betrayal, insisting that she failed to appreciate his support.

The lawyer went further, calling May “fake” and “a liar,” while hinting that he possessed more damaging information that could ruin her reputation if he decided to publish it. According to Ugwuonye, he treated May with “first-class care” during her court appearances, offering regular updates on the Cause List and ensuring she avoided unnecessary delays.

May’s camp has denied these claims. Through her legal representatives, Graylaw Partners, she served Ugwuonye a cease-and-desist notice, accusing him of cyberbullying, defamation, and cyberstalking. The letter highlighted what her lawyers described as a campaign of targeted online harassment designed to discredit her character during an already sensitive divorce battle.

The dispute quickly gained attention across social media platforms, with fans and observers sharing mixed opinions. Some sided with May, praising her resilience and accusing Ugwuonye of unprofessional conduct. Others argued that both parties should handle their differences privately rather than fueling public drama.

The clash comes at a time when May has continued to receive overwhelming public support since her marital crisis with Yul Edochie became public. Many Nigerians have viewed her as a symbol of strength, especially as she continues to push forward with her career and personal life amid the ongoing divorce.

For Emeka Ugwuonye, however, this is not the first time he has been involved in controversial online battles. His decision to publish private conversations has now raised ethical questions about how far lawyers should go when handling disputes with former clients.

As the case unfolds, both May and Ugwuonye appear unwilling to back down, leaving many Nigerians glued to the unfolding drama. With court proceedings still ongoing, it remains to be seen how this bitter fallout will affect the legal direction of the highly publicized divorce.
