Dayo Amusa Forgives TikTok Creator Over False HIV Claim

Nollywood actress Dayo Amusa has finally closed a painful chapter in her life with forgiveness. The actress announced that she has forgiven TikTok content creator Olaoluwa Segun, known online as unofficial_olas001, after he falsely accused her of being HIV positive. Her decision came after weeks of tension and a threatened legal battle, but in the end, she chose compassion over punishment.

The issue first began in July when Olaoluwa published a video naming Dayo Amusa among five Nigerian actors he claimed were living with HIV. The allegation spread quickly online, sparking outrage among her fans and industry colleagues. At that time, Amusa vowed to take legal action and even promised to make Olaoluwa a “scapegoat” to warn others against spreading damaging lies.

This was not the first time the actress had addressed such rumors. Back in 2019, she publicly confirmed that she was HIV negative and used the opportunity to encourage her fans to get tested and take their health seriously. For her, the new false claim was not just an attack on her reputation but also a cruel attempt to drag her name through the mud.

However, in a recent update, Dayo Amusa explained why she had decided to forgive the young TikTok creator. According to her, she discovered that Olaoluwa had just lost his mother and was still battling personal struggles. She also met with his family members, including his uncle, and this softened her heart. In her words, she realized that he was only a 27-year-old boy who had made a terrible mistake.

“I did promise to make him a scapegoat, which I did. But along the line, I realised he just lost his mum. I got to realise he is just a 27-year-old boy. I also got to meet his relatives, including his uncle,” she explained in a video posted on her social media.

To close the matter publicly, Amusa shared a video of Olaoluwa’s heartfelt apology and captioned it with a message that forgiveness is divine. She wrote, “Case closed. To err is human, to forgive is divine. Making mistakes is a natural and inherent part of being human. Let’s be guided.” Her post quickly went viral, with many praising her maturity and strength.

On his part, Olaoluwa admitted to the harm his false accusation caused and spoke about the tough lessons he learned. He described his two days in detention at Yaba Panti police station as one of the worst experiences of his life, second only to losing his mother. “I want to thank Aunty Dayo Amusa for forgiving me. If not for the fact that she changed her mind and forgave me, I would have been there for a long time. I don’t pray to ever sleep in a cell again,” he said.

By forgiving Olaoluwa, Dayo Amusa not only brought an end to the controversy but also showed leadership and humanity in an industry often filled with drama and conflict. Instead of holding on to anger, she demonstrated that forgiveness can heal wounds and prevent further negativity. Many of her fans have praised her action as an example for others to follow.

This case also highlights how damaging false accusations can be for celebrities and ordinary people alike. Rumors can destroy reputations, cause emotional pain, and even affect careers. But through her decision, Dayo Amusa proved that while accountability is important, compassion and forgiveness can sometimes be the most powerful response.
