M.I Abaga Says Wife Is His First Investor And Toughest Critic

Veteran Nigerian rapper M.I Abaga has opened up about his marriage, music journey and political views, revealing that his wife, Eniola Mafe, has played a major role in his life and career. Speaking on a recent podcast interview, the 43-year-old artiste said his wife supported his creative agency TASCK from the very beginning and gave him the very first financial investment to help launch it.

According to M.I, the first cheque he received for TASCK came from Eniola, even before any outside investor showed interest. He described her as the most supportive person in his life and said her belief in his vision gave him confidence to keep pushing. He also explained that her support goes beyond financial help as she is also his most honest critic.

The rapper shared that his wife regularly records his shows, reviews his design ideas and even writes long detailed feedback on his music. Sometimes, she gives him a long analysis before he even finishes processing a new idea. M.I said her dedication and attention to detail keeps him focused and helps him strive for excellence in everything he does.

Reflecting on his music journey, M.I recalled that one of his most popular songs, African Rapper No.1, was also one of the most difficult tracks he has ever written. Despite its simple sound, he said it took a lot of effort to create. He added that his focus now is on advocacy and legacy, using his platform and agency to support the Nigerian creative industry.

M.I also spoke about his past involvement in politics, revealing that he previously supported the All Progressives Congress in 2015 because he had hoped for positive change. However, after seeing the country’s complex realities, he decided to vote differently in the 2023 elections, supporting Peter Obi for president, PDP for Senate and Banky W for House of Representatives.
