NLNG Boss Urges NNPC to Increase Investment in Gas Sector to Stabilise Supply
The Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Nigeria LNG Limited, Philip Mshelbila, has appealed to the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited to increase investment in the gas sector to stabilise gas supply across the country.
Mshelbila made this appeal on Thursday during the visit of the NNPC Group Chief Executive Officer, Bayo Ojulari, to the NLNG plant on Bonny Island. He said that deliberate investment in gas infrastructure and upstream projects is urgently needed to de-risk the sector and unlock new opportunities.
Welcoming Ojulari to the facility, Mshelbila briefed him on NLNG’s current operations, plans, and the challenges facing the company. He described NNPC as a dependable shareholder committed to strengthening the entire gas value chain. He added that greater synergy between both organisations is essential for achieving the nation’s energy goals.
According to him, sustained investment will help stabilise gas supply, drive growth across the sector, and increase investor confidence. He said the company is focused on delivering consistent gas output, supporting Nigeria’s energy transition, and boosting national competitiveness in the global market.
In his response, Ojulari reaffirmed NLNG’s strategic importance in achieving Nigeria’s energy transition and economic stability. He praised the company for its high standards of transparency and governance in the industry.
Ojulari said his visit provided an opportunity to assess NLNG’s progress, explore areas for operational improvement, and identify opportunities for increased revenue generation. He also spoke about the development of a new Gas Master Plan and the possibility of hydrogen collaborations as part of Nigeria’s plan for a net-zero future.
The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Petroleum Resources, Emeka Vitalis, who was also present at the visit, stressed the importance of NLNG’s Train 7 project in supporting Nigeria’s export targets and strengthening the country’s energy resilience.
During the tour, the NNPC boss and other officials visited several operational areas, including the main plant complex and the construction site of Train 7, a major expansion project that is expected to significantly increase NLNG’s production capacity.
The visit reflects the growing collaboration between NLNG and NNPC as both organisations work to secure Nigeria’s energy future and deliver long-term value to the nation.
