INEC and NOA Join Forces for Smooth Voter Registration in Ekiti

The National Orientation Agency (NOA) has announced its full support for the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to ensure a smooth Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) in Ekiti State. The exercise is set to begin on August 18 for online registration and August 25 for physical registration, ahead of the 2026 governorship election in the state.

During a sensitisation event in Ado Ekiti, NOA State Director, Mrs. Oluwakemi Akomolede, stressed the importance of mobilising eligible voters who have not yet registered to seize the opportunity to obtain their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs). She stated that the NOA would begin community outreach across the state, especially in rural areas, to encourage mass participation.

She said, “NOA is fully prepared and ready to synergise with INEC in Ekiti State to ensure the CVR exercise is conducted smoothly and without any disruptions.”

INEC’s Resident Electoral Commissioner in Ekiti State, Dr. Bunmi Omoseyindemi, also addressed stakeholders at a meeting involving political parties, civil society groups, religious associations, and market women. He confirmed INEC’s preparedness for a hitch-free CVR exercise and urged stakeholders to play their part in educating the public.

Dr. Omoseyindemi clarified that the exercise is open to citizens who have turned 18 or have never registered before. He also emphasized that the process would allow for the correction of personal data, transfer of registration to a new location, and replacement of lost or damaged PVCs.

“The CVR is critical to the deepening of our democracy. We will not allow underage individuals or non-Nigerians to register. Anyone caught attempting such actions will be prosecuted,” he warned.

He added that INEC would make use of technology to ensure transparency and inclusiveness in the registration process. He urged political parties to mobilise eligible voters legally and cautioned against double registration or fraudulent activities.

INEC also called on civil society organisations to use their influence to educate citizens on the importance of voter registration. The REC concluded by reaffirming the commission’s commitment to fairness, accessibility, and adherence to the electoral guidelines throughout the process.
