NYSC Deploys 1,000 Corps Members to Benue as Governor Urges Unity and Skills Development

The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has deployed 1,000 corps members to Benue State for the 2025 Batch B Stream 1. This was disclosed during the formal orientation programme held at the permanent NYSC camp in Wannune, where Governor Hyacinth Alia encouraged the corps members to promote national unity and build long-lasting friendships.

Represented by Dr. Philip Nongu, the Permanent Secretary of the Benue State Ministry of Youth, Sports Development, and Creativity, Governor Alia commended the corps members for their willingness to serve the country. He urged them to be loyal and dedicated throughout their service year, stressing the important role they play in shaping Nigeria’s future.

Alia called on the corps members to embrace the Skill Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) programme, describing it as a vital opportunity to equip themselves with practical business and vocational skills relevant to the 21st-century economy. He noted that SAED remains a powerful solution to youth unemployment and financial independence.

“My dear compatriots, you have an important responsibility to help shape the future of this nation,” the governor said. “Take the SAED programme seriously. It could be the door to your future success.”

Governor Alia also extended his appreciation to the NYSC Benue State Coordinator, Mrs Veronica Garba, the camp officials, and collaborating agencies for their unwavering support and leadership in managing the camp effectively.

Speaking on behalf of Mrs Garba, the Camp Director, Mr Edwin Oghanze, explained that the NYSC scheme revolves around four core programmes—orientation, primary assignment, community development service, and winding-up/passing out. He highlighted the orientation course as the first step in preparing corps members for meaningful national service and beyond.

The deployment of NYSC Corps Members in Benue reflects the scheme’s continuous effort to foster unity, youth development, and entrepreneurship across Nigeria. The ongoing camp activities are expected to instill discipline, leadership, and skill-building necessary for both the service year and future careers.
