Shaboozey Says Nigeria Will Always Be in His Blood Despite Being Raised in the US

Famous American country music star, Collins Obinna Chibueze—better known by his stage name Shaboozey—has opened up about how deeply connected he feels to Nigeria, the country of his parents. Even though he was born and raised in Woodbridge, Virginia, USA, the singer says Nigeria will always remain a part of who he is.

Shaboozey recently collaborated with Nigerian Afrobeats superstar Burna Boy on a new track titled “Change Your Mind.” For Shaboozey, this project means more than just a song—it’s a powerful reminder of his roots. In an emotional post on X (formerly Twitter), he shared how special the track feels to him.

“This one feels like a homecoming. Virginia raised me, but Nigeria will always be in my blood — now I get to share that with the world alongside my brother @burnaboy. ‘Change Your Mind’ drops tonight. Grateful, honored, and hope y’all love this song as much as we do!” he wrote.

The singer described the collaboration as an honour, noting that he’s proud to work with someone from his home country. For him, the opportunity to connect musically with his Nigerian roots is something he doesn’t take lightly.

Shaboozey was born on May 9, 1995, to Nigerian immigrant parents, and he started his music career in 2014 with his first single titled “Jeff Gordon.” Since then, his unique sound has blended country music with hip-hop and global influences.

He gained international fame in 2024 when he was featured on two songs from Beyoncé’s album “Cowboy Carter.” The album brought country music into the spotlight in a new way, and Shaboozey became one of the standout voices from the project.

Shaboozey’s latest hit, “A Bar Song (Tipsy),” has made history by tying with Lil Nas X’s “Old Town Road” as the longest-running number one song on the Billboard Hot 100. This achievement has cemented his place in music history, especially as a Black artist in the American country music scene.

Despite his success in the United States, Shaboozey continues to celebrate his Nigerian identity. His words and music reflect a deep sense of gratitude and pride in where he comes from, showing the world that cultural roots can be both powerful and personal.
