Ilara-Mokin Plants 800 Trees to Promote Greener Community

Ilara-Mokin, a town in Ifedore Local Government Area of Ondo State, has planted 800 trees as part of its second phase of a green initiative aimed at protecting the environment and enhancing the beauty of the community.

The tree planting campaign began with the launch of the initiative at the town’s palace. According to a statement released, this second phase took place on April 30 and May 1, 2025, and included planting along major streets and public spaces.

On the first day, trees were planted starting from the town’s first entrance beside the petrol station, stretching through both sides of the road toward the town centre and the post office. Key public areas such as the palace, Wuraola Health Centre, the general hospital, and Mega Primary School were also part of the greening project. Mega Primary School received a mini-woodlot of over 50 Tectona grandis seedlings.

The second day’s exercise began from the palace street to the Elizade Guest House, then extended to the second town entrance near the general hospital. Trees were planted along both sides of the road, passing by notable landmarks like St. Andrew’s Primary School and the home of Baba Elizade.

Private homes, including the residence of Major General Omojokun, as well as public institutions such as the UBA car park and another primary school, were also planted with avenue trees. Tree species were carefully selected to provide shade and protection from wind, especially around school premises.

The organisers noted that sourcing the seedlings posed a challenge, indicating that while the enthusiasm was high, acquiring the right number and type of seedlings took significant effort.

The initiative reflects Ilara-Mokin’s growing commitment to environmental sustainability and the improvement of public health and living standards in the community.
