2Baba Opens Up on Painful Rift with Blackface and Divorce from Annie
Veteran Nigerian singer Innocent Idibia, popularly known as 2Baba, has shared his deep frustration over the long-standing feud with his former bandmate, Blackface. In a candid interview with media personality Nedu on the 234 Mzansi Podcast, the iconic African Queen crooner revealed that the situation has been painful, especially since he has always shown Blackface respect.
The two artists, once part of the now-defunct group Plantashun Boiz, collaborated on several songs in the early 2000s. However, tensions between them have persisted for years, with Blackface often accusing 2Baba of taking credit for hit tracks they supposedly co-wrote.
“It was a collaboration. I wrote most of the song, actually, but we wrote it together,” 2Baba clarified. “I’ve always shown him respect, but he has always been out there to smear my name. They are absurd, ridiculous and very painful at times.”
The singer said he still doesn’t understand what he may have done to deserve such persistent attacks and online criticism. “Till today, I just wonder why? What’s the reason? It’s just ridiculous,” he added.
In the same interview, 2Baba also spoke for the first time in-depth about his recent divorce from his wife of over a decade, Annie Macaulay. The couple, who married in May 2012, ended their marriage in January 2025 after years of ups and downs, which often played out publicly.
2Baba explained that they both tried hard to save the relationship but eventually chose to part ways because it was no longer working. Though he didn’t share the full details behind the breakup, he praised Annie as an amazing woman and encouraged people not to feel trapped in unhappy marriages.
Shortly after the separation, 2Baba confirmed he is now in a new relationship with Edo State lawmaker Natasha Osawaru, marking a new chapter in both his personal and public life.
The 49-year-old music icon also sparked online debate when he controversially stated that it is “biologically impossible” for men to be sexually committed to only one woman. While some fans viewed his statement as honest, others criticized it as dismissive of monogamous values.
Still, the interview gave fans rare insight into the personal battles 2Baba has faced despite his successful career—ranging from unresolved disputes with former collaborators to the emotional toll of a failed marriage.
