COP28: Lagos State Waste Conversion Initiatives Attract Investors- Sanwo Olu
Sanwo Olu, the governor of Lagos State, on Sunday, talked abou the Phase 2 of the ongoing Lagos State Climate Adaptation and Resilience Plan (LCARP) to its global partners. He said that the state’s participation in the ongoing 28th session of the Conference of Parties (COP28) in Dubai and has yielded quick and good opportunities to United Arab Emirates. he disclosed that the two waste conversion initiatives, which the state pitched at the global climate summit, had attracted significant interest from investors.
In a post on X, the governor said;
“Two waste conversion initiatives that we presented at the global climate summit have garnered significant interest from investors,” Sanwo-Olu said.
“These projects are the Advanced Garbage Collection and Waste-to-Energy project, as well as the construction of a new Sewage Treatment Plant.”
He said the two initiatives are the advanced garbage collection and waste-to-energy project, and the building of a new sewage treatment plant, adding that the two waste sector projects were at a pivotal stage, awaiting technical review by interested partners and disbursement of funds to transform the ideas to reality.
Governor Sanwo-Olu added;
“We believe that sustainable solutions to our local environmental challenges can be achieved by working together,” he said.
“I emphasized that the LCARP document serves as our strategic roadmap towards a sustainable future.
“This framework identifies 30 ambitious projects spanning critical sectors such as transportation, renewable energy, and waste management.”
“The success of Lagos on this journey will not only be a success for Nigeria but also an inspiring story of achievement for Africa and the world,” he added.
The governor further said that his administration understands the importance of collaboration and is actively engaging with potential partners to ensure their involvement in bringing the Lagos state government plans to fruition and hat his administration is ready to take the lead and has developed a clear strategy to achieve it’s climate mitigation objectives.
