POSTPARTUM: Tips for tightening loose skin

Pregnancy can affect your skin in a variety of ways and the majority of them go away after birth. However, there may be some loose skin left behind and this occurs because the skin is made up of collagen and elastin which stretches during pregnancy and sometimes might have difficulty returning to its former shape.

Getting rid of loose skin on your stomach after delivery takes time but with effort and dedication, it can be achieved.

1 Eat healthy

The skin needs plenty of nutrients in other to maintain its elasticity, as a result, you must consume enough nutrients to keep your skin resilient and supple in other to increase elasticity and tightening of loose skin. Include foods like oranges, vegetables, lean protein, and fats.

2 Massage with essential oils

Some essential oils have antioxidants and anti-inflammatory properties which may help the skin repair itself. Apply the oil and the affected area and massage twice a day.

3 Exercise

Exercising will tighten your skin by strengthening the abdominal muscles. Exercising also increases circulation, which helps to raise collagen and elastin by increasing oxygen availability to the tissues.

4 Stay hydrated

Staying hydrated helps to keep the skin supple and elastic. It burns calories and lowers water retention in the body making skin firmer.
