Leicester City’s manager Brendan Rodgers has confirmed that forward Harvey Barnes, could miss the remainder of the season.

This is coming after Barnes experienced a setback in his recovery process.

It comes as a major drawback because the pacey forward had his eyes on making the English squad for the euros. However, with the recent turn of events, that is looking more and more unlikely.

The present condition of Harvey Barnes

Barnes hurt his knee, during Leicester City’s match against the Gunners in February.

He had hoped to return in time, in other to be available for the FA Cup clash against Chelsea. However, a second operation on his knee has made that target completely unrealistic.

Statements from Brendan Rodgers

In his statement, Rodgers referred to the second operation as a minor one. Nonetheless, he affirmed in no uncertain terms that Barnes would be out for the rest of the season.

In the manager’s comments, he insisted that the idea would be to have him available before pre-season games. As opposed to having him before the Euros.

Rounding up his statement, Rodgers expressed the belief that if Barnes had not been injured, he would undoubtedly have made the English squad.

Stats from Harvey Barnes

Before his injury, Harvey Barnes was in scintillating form for the foxes, scoring 13 times in 36 appearances. In line with that, many believed he would be firing on all cylinders during the euros.

However, injuries had other ideas. As it stands any iota of hope he would be making the euros is null and void.

Conclusion

No doubt, being ruled out of the euros is an unfortunate situation for Harvey Barnes. Nevertheless, there is a positive outlook to his circumstance.

Based on the timing of the second surgery, Barnes would have enough time to recuperate and prepare for the new season. A season that would likely see his team back in Champions League contention.
