NAPTIP rescues 83 trafficked persons in Ondo
No fewer than 83 persons have been rescued from being trafficked by the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons, NAPTIP, in Ondo State in the last three years.
The federal agency also disclosed that three suspected traffickers were currently being prosecuted in the state.
The Director General, NAPTIP, Mrs. Julie Okah-Donli, stated this at a training for members of the task force on human trafficking in Ondo and Ekiti states, held in Akure on Friday.
Okah-Donli said Ondo state was strategic in the fight against human trafficking, hence the plan by NAPTIP to establish a state command in Akure.
The NAPTIP boss stated, “The task force has been set up in 14 states of the federation with the support of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime and the International organization for Migration”.
She added that plans were in progress to create the task force in the remaining states of the federation.
The Solicitor-General of Ondo State, Cyril Akinrinsola, said the state government would continue to work with NAPTIP in the fight against human trafficking, noting that the agency was a child of necessity to complement the efforts of relevant security agencies.
