Drunken cop detained, faces disciplinary action, psychological evaluation
The police have arrested a drunken cop identified as Inspector Garba Salisu at the CBN Junction, Garki, Few metres to the Federal Capital Territory Police Command Headquarters, Abuja.
The arrest followed a trending video of the officer who was looking disheveled, talking incoherently and surrounded by a crowd on Saturday.
In the footage, passersby could be heard berating the inspector for allegedly being drunk while on duty.
Salisu was made to sit on a brick wall while a man poured water on his head in a attempt to sober him up. There were speculations that his rifle was taken away by an unknown person.
Reacting to the incident in a statement on Sunday, the FCT Police spokesperson, Mariam Yusuf, explained that Salisu had been taken into custody.
“Furthermore, the Commissioner of Police, Bala Ciroma, has ordered that the officer be subjected to psychological and medical evaluation, preparatory to the commencement of disciplinary actions against him”, Yusuf disclosed.
