EndSARS: Nigeria’s problem bigger than police brutality- Aare Adams
The Aare Onakakanfo of Yorubaland, Iba Gani Adams, said yesterday that efforts to reform the Nigeria police without a holistic overall of Nigeria’s institutions and the system will be in futility.
Speaking in Lagos during his 50th birthday thanksgiving celebration at the Saviour’s Ministries C&S Worldwide, Aare Adams said that the current situation in the country goes beyond police brutality
His words, “The issue on ground is beyond police brutality. It is about sanity in the whole system of the country and institution. Youths at their level, are looking at police brutality, but we are thinking beyond police reform.
“If you fail to reform Nigeria’s system and change the character of the people through policies, it will be very difficult to reform the police. This is one of the reasons we are clamouring for restructuring. Nigeria needs to be restructured to regionalism, but if that is too late, we will start an agitation for self determination through a referendum. We believe this country cannot move forward without restructuring.
“For instance, a few weeks ago, Mr President added additional N10 to the fuel price, the pain is becoming too much. our economy is in a state of comatose. Nigerians are suffering and the testimony of the suffering is what happened at the Lekki tollgate. People are hungry and angry. Without restructuring, i don’t think this country can survive”.
