My son committed suicide after losing N7m forex trading during SARS detention- Mother
A grieving mother, Mrs Funmilayo Akinade on Thursday narrated how her son, Seyi Akinade lost N7m of forex trading and later commited suicide.
The grieving mother said her mother committed suicide after his arrest and illegal detention by the operatives of the disbanded Special Anti-Robbery Squad in Ogun State.
The mother stated her case while appearing before the panel probing police brutality and other human rights violation in the state.
She alleged that the operatives were from the Zonal Intervention Squad of SARS, a police formation located in Obada-Oko, near Abeokuta.
The zonal unit was scrapped by the Inspector General of Police, Mohammed Adamu, following the killing of a Remo soccer star, Kazeem Tiyamiyu, aka Kaka in February.
The mother said Seyi who was a student of the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta, committed suicide due to depression he suffered after the operatives raided students’ hostel in Abeokuta.
