Jukun, Tiv feud not enough reason to stop my daughter from marrying Tiv- Gov Ishaku

Governor Darius Ishaku of Taraba state has said the age long feud between the Tiv and Jukun is not enough reason to stop his daughter from marrying a Tiv man. Ishaku, who is a Jukun by tribe, at the weekend gave out his daughter, Clara Ishaku in marriage to an Air Force Pilot, Dooyun Ugbor, who is Tiv from Benue state. Speaking at the occasion, he pleaded with Tiv leaders in Benue and Taraba states to assist in facilitating the on-going peace initiative of his administration between the Tiv and the Jukun. Recall that the Southern and some parts of Central Taraba have been witnessing communal conflict. The Tiv and some ethnic groups in central Taraba, including the Jukun are engaged in a crisis that has persisted for years and claimed many lives and properties. Ishaku said several people has asked why he was allowing his daughter to marry from an ethnic group that was killing his people. According to him, Clara has known Dooyun for long and now that she has fallen in love and agreed to marry him, how can i say no to her? For us, this is a message that love conquers all things and love is essentially what God is seeking from each and every one of us . We pray today will mark the beginning of new things, not only for the Tiv and Jukun but all other people that also have problems”. He urged the Tiv and other groups involved in the crisis to take advantage of social interactions of such inter-ethnic marriages to resolve their differences.
